The Lifetime Learning Institute as a division of a College or University

Context:

Universities and colleges have long sought to expand their influence beyond the "normal" college age of 17 to 24. They have operated colleges of "continuing education", have departments of "adult learning", experimented with "distance education", promoted "academic outreach" and have devoted countless hours, studies and meetings on how to teach "adults". The goal is to convince "adults" that they should "go back" to school to complete a degree, or take "non-credit" work.

A new approach is recommended to expand the sphere of influence of universities and colleges beyond the "college age" group. This approach, the LIFETIME LEARNING INSTITUTE, is designed to appeal to that portion of the U.S. population who reside in the LIFETIME LEARNING DOMAIN. The following notes describe this domain and outline a procedure to market KNOWLEDGE, the product of universities and colleges, to this domain.
